SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Virginia (3-7) hit three home runs on the afternoon, but the Roadrunners came up with the walk-off win as the Cavaliers fell at UTSA (5-4) by a score of 5-4 on Sunday (Feb. 21).

With two outs and two on in the bottom of the seventh, UTSA came up with a single down the third base line that brought home the winning run and ended Virginia’s weekend at the UTSA Classic.

Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) took the loss for the Cavaliers and fell to 2-5 on the season. She allowed three runs on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Lacy Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) started the game and allowed two runs on two hits with two walks in 0.1 innings of work.

Allie Arneson (Aledo, Texas) wasted no time getting things started for the Cavaliers, ripping a single in the opening at bat of the game. She came home two batters later when Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) belted out a two-run shot to left center to give Virginia the 2-0 lead on the Roadrunners.

UTSA answered with a two-run shot of its own in the bottom half of the inning as a leadoff walk put the first runner on and then the third batter of the inning sent one over the wall in straight-away center.

Park hit her second home run of the day in her second at bat, powering a towering shot over the wall in center to put the Cavaliers on top 3-2.

Iyana Hughes (M) got into the home run action in the fifth inning, adding her own solo shot to make it a 4-2 lead for the Cavaliers.

UTSA got its second home run of the game, another two-run shot in the sixth inning as the Roadrunners tied the game 4-4.

The Cavaliers weren’t able to escape the jam in the seventh, however, as UTSA came up with the walk-off single to grab the 5-4 win.

Virginia will return to action next weekend, traveling to USC Upstate to compete in the Spartan Classic. The Cavaliers will play five games, facing USC Upstate, LaSalle, Furman and Ohio on the weekend.
