CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia (3-7) softball team continues play on the road this weekend, heading to compete at the Spartan Classic hosted by USC Upstate this weekend, beginning with a pair of games on Friday (Feb. 26).

The Cavaliers will play five games on the weekend, kicking things off with games against USC Upstate (7-1) at 3 p.m. and Ohio (3-1) at 5 p.m. on Friday. Both Friday games will be played at Cyrill Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.

Saturday will feature games against LaSalle (0-0) and Ohio before the Cavaliers close out the tournament with a single game against Furman (5-6) on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday’s games will be played at Pepsi Stadium in Greenville, S.C.

Virginia enters the weekend after two straight weekends on the road at the Kajikawa Classic and UTSA Classic, hosted by Arizona State and UTSA, respectively. It marks the third of four consecutive weekends on the road to start the season for the Cavaliers.

Junior Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) leads the Cavalier offense, batting at a .452 clip with four home runs, 14 RBI and seven runs scored this season. She also holds a 1.000 slugging percentage with nine extra-base hits in her 14 hits on the season. Park also holds a .500 on base percentage with two walks and one hit by pitch as she sets the tone for Virginia at the plate.

Virginia is hitting .316 as a team with 14 home runs, 49 RBI and 52 runs scored through 10 games this season. The Cavaliers have also drawn 25 walks and are 7-of-9 in steal attempts heading into the Spartan Classic.

A pair of freshmen is leading the way for the Cavaliers in the circle with Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) posting five starts through eight appearances, while Lacy Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) has four starts through six appearances. Osherow (2-5) has 29 strikeouts and 13 walks allowed through 39.1 innings of work with a 3.92 ERA. Smith (1-1) has held opponents to a .278 batting average against in 16.1 innings of work this season.
