Final Stats

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Cavaliers got a runner in scoring position in the seventh, but couldn’t complete a rally as Virginia (8-21, 0-6 ACC) fell to Louisville (19-6, 5-1 ACC) by a score of 2-1 in the series finale Saturday at The Park.

All of the scoring came in the third inning with Louisville pushing its two runs across the plate before Virginia answered with Kaitlin Fitzgerald’s (Placentia, Calif.) sacrifice fly in the home half of the frame.

Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) suffered the loss for the Cavaliers and fell to 6-13 on the season. She allowed two runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in her complete-game effort.

Maryssa Becker picked up the win for Louisville, allowing the one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Becker improved to 9-4 on the season with the win.

Louisville got on the board in the third with a two-RBI double from Hailey Smith.

Fitzgerald answered for the Cavaliers in the bottom of the third when her sacrifice fly to center field scored Allison Davis (Oak Hill, Va,). Davis doubled with one out and took third on a wild pitch to set up the score on the fly ball from Fitzgerald.

Virginia would get no closer as Louisville closed out the game.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Wednesday (March 23), kicking off another road trip with a doubleheader at Longwood beginning at 4 p.m. Virginia will then continue ACC play at Pittsburgh over the weekend.
