CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 14 Virginia baseball team entertains Old Dominion at 5 p.m. Wednesday (March 30) at Davenport Field in a game that originally was scheduled for Tuesday.

• Virginia ranks third in the ACC in batting (.318).
• Matt Thaiss has struck out twice in 98 ABs (49 AB/K ratio ranks first in nation).
• Ernie Clement (40) and Adam Haseley (36) rank first and fourth, respectively, in hits among ACC players.
• Clement ranks second nationally with 11 sac bunts.
• Virginia has started at least three freshmen in all but one game this year.
Virginia-ODU Series
Old Dominion leads the series with UVA, 32-26-2, and has won three straight games against the Cavaliers. The Monarchs scored a pair of wins over UVA last season, winning 14-5 in Charlottesville before taking a 3-1 decision at Harbor Park in Norfolk.
Cavaliers Look to Continue Midweek Success
Virginia has gone 7-0 in midweek games this season. The Cavaliers have averaged 12.7 runs and 15.3 hits per midweek game and have scored in double figures in five of the seven contests.
Virginia Against In-State Foes
UVA is 3-0 this season against in-state opponents. Since 2004, the Cavaliers have a 114-24-1 record against in-state foes.
Tough Schedule Remains
Virginia has 30 games remaining in the regular season, and it figures to be challenging. Twenty-five of Virginia’s final 30 games are against teams who currently have winning records, including seven of the nine non-conference contests.
The remaining schedule also includes 12 games against ranked teams: NC State, North Carolina, Miami and Georgia Tech. UVA has 18 home games and 12 road games remaining.
Smith Producing in Cleanup Spot
In his first year of batting cleanup, Pavin Smith is batting .346 with a team-high 27 RBI (sixth in the ACC). He batted .400 (4-for-10) in the Louisville series and hit a 3-run homer in the Friday win. Smith saw most of his action in the 3-hole (18 games) and 5-hole (49 games) last year.
Noting Old Dominion
Old Dominion dropped to 18-7 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA after suffering a series sweep at Rice last weekend. The Monarchs had won seven straight games prior to the sweep. Connor Myers leads the team with a .317 batting average as well as three home runs and 22 runs. Nick Walker is batting .297, while Zach Rutherford is hitting .297. As a team, ODU is batting .257. The Monarchs own a 4.04 team ERA and have limited their opponents to a .270 batting average.
