CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The No. 3 Virginia men’s track and field team captured three event wins as action at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational Saturday (April 9) at Lannigan Field.

The Cavaliers had four men make the finals of the discus, including junior Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina), who won with a mark of 61.26m (201′ 0″). Sophomore James Williams (Radford, Va.) finished third with a PR of 52.04m (170′ 9″), which ranks 10th on UVA’s all-time list.

Redshirt-freshman Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won the shot put with a throw of 18.29m (60′ 0.25″).

“We had a great weekend in the throws all weekend long, with PRs up and down the board,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “What is even better is that they all hold each other accountable and continue to grow collectively. Weekends like this show why Virginia is a premier destination for throwing.”

Freshman Charles Bowman (Harrisburg, Pa.) won the 110m hurdles in 14.54.

The Cavaliers return to action when they host the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field April 22-23. Admission is free to the public.
