New London, N.C. – The No. 24 Virginia men’s golf team tied for eighth place at the 63rd annual ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 7-over 295 during Sunday’s final round for a three-day total of 6-over 870.

Clemson, ranked No. 12, took the team title at 25-under 839. The Tigers won the title for the 10th time while No. 11 Wake Forest was second at 850.

The Cavaliers were led by freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) who used a final round score of 69 to vault into a tie for ninth place at 3-under 213. Walsh posted the second highest finish of any freshman in the field. It marked the second consecutive tournament he has finished under par.

Virginia juniors Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) and Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) tied for 16th place at even par 216. Stanger finished the tournament with a round of 74 while Bard shot 75.

UVA sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) tied for 46th place at 11-over 227. Walker shot 77 on Sunday while Poole finished with a 78.

Louisville’s Robin Sciot-Siegrist shot the tournament’s best round, 7-under 65, to win medalist honors by one stroke at 10-under 206.

The Cavaliers will now wait to learn their NCAA Regional assignment. The NCAA selections are announced May 5 and the six regional tournaments will take place May 16-18.

Commonwealth Clash
The ACC Championships signified the men’s golf matchup between Virginia and Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash, sponsored by Virginia529, the official college savings plan of University of Virginia Athletics. One point was at stake in the all-sports rivalry series between the two schools. UVA has clinched this year’s championship and the UVA men’s golf team’s finish ahead of their Hokie counterparts added another point to the Cavaliers’ total. Virginia currently leads the 2015-16 point standings 12 to 5. Virginia Tech finished the ACC Championships in 11th place at 26-over 890.
