Pavin Smith of #UVABase was named the Cape Cod League’s Player of the Week this week after a torrid week of hitting in which he had a pair of home runs and four extra-base hits. He is currently batting .326 this summer at the Cape, which ranks sixth in the league.

This week, Brittany Altomare will become the first former UVA golfer to play in the Women’s British Open. The tournament runs July 28-31 at Woburn Golf and Country Club in England. Altomare has played in five LPGA events this season and made the cut three times. Her best finish was a 13th-place showing at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championships.

A year ago UVA men’s golfer Denny McCarthy won the @PorterCup, one of the nation’s top elite amateur events. This week current ‘Hoo @Derek_Bard will try to make it two-in-a-row for the UVA program. The 72-hole event starts Wednesday at the Niagara Falls Country Club.
