ALBACETE, Spain – The Virginia men’s basketball team rolled to a 70-44 win over Arcos Albacete on Saturday (Aug. 13) at Pabellon del Parque. The Cavaliers improved to 3-0 on their tour of Spain.

Freshman Jay Huff led the Cavaliers with 14 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Junior Marial Shayok added 12 points and freshmen Kyle Guy and De’Andre Hunter added eight points each.

“We were able to give some of the young guys more minutes today,” associate head coach Ron Sanchez said. “We came to Spain to accomplish some things, especially defensively, and I thought our freshmen played well.”

UVA jumped to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter as London Perrantes, Ty Jerome, Shayok and Hunter all drilled 3-pointers.

The Cavaliers outscored Albacete 19-4 in the second quarter as six UVA players scored. UVA dominated the glass, outrebounding Albacete 23-9 in the first half.

UVA extended its lead to 57-20 after three quarters. Guy and Huff each tallied four points in the quarter.

Huff tallied six points in the fourth quarter and senior Jeff Jones scored from the baseline. Justice Bartley and Trevon Gross Jr. also saw action in the fourth quarter for UVA. Austin Nichols, Jarred Reuter and Devon Hall did not play in the contest.

UVA shot 46.7 percent from the field and outrebounded Albacete 44-29. Jack Salt grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Mamadi Diakite added seven rebounds. Perrantes and Jerome each handed out four assists. Jerome and Hunter added four steals apiece. Johan Kody had a team-high 11 points for Albacete.

The Cavaliers have two remaining games on the tour, which concludes Aug. 18.
