Virginia Announces 2016 Fall Baseball Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia baseball head coach Brian O’Connor has announced the team’s schedule for the 2016 fall season. UVA’s fall schedule consists of an exhibition game at Liberty on Saturday, Oct. 1, as well as the team’s annual intrasquad Orange and Blue World Series in October.
Per NCAA regulations, the Cavaliers’ fall exhibition game with Liberty will count toward Virginia’s 56-game regular season for the 2017 season, but the outcome of the game will not be included in the Cavaliers’ win-loss record in 2017. UVA will play 55 regular-season games in the spring.
The Orange and Blue World Series begins Oct. 11 and consists of seven games, concluding on Sunday, Oct. 30.
There is no admission charge for Virginia’s exhibition game at Liberty or for the Orange and Blue World Series games at Davenport Field. Free parking will be available in the University Hall lot. Fans should enter Davenport Field for all fall games along the first-base line and not the main gate. The best route to reach this entrance is by using the road adjacent to the Lannigan Field track complex.
The Cavaliers begin fall practice at 2:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 16). That practice is open to the public. It is one of two practices that are open to the public during the fall season. UVA’s practice on Sunday, Sept. 25, also is open to the public.
O’Connor is entering his 14th season at the helm of the Virginia program and has led the Cavaliers to the second-most wins in Division I baseball over the last eight seasons with 380. UVA has made four trips to the College World Series in that span, including a pair of CWS Finals appearances and the Cavaliers’ NCAA Championship in 2015. Virginia returns 22 letterwinners from its 2016 team and welcomes 10 newcomers to the program this season.
