CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 14 Virginia field hockey team (4-3, 0-1 ACC) closes its current homestand by hosting No. 5 Connecticut (6-0) on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.
Admission is free for all regular-season Virginia field hockey games.
Live stats will be available through the GameTracker link on VirginiaSports.com as well as being available through the Virginia Game Day app. The game will also stream live as an ACC Network Extra game online on ESPN3 and on the WatchESPN app.
Virginia started the week with a 2-1 victory over Liberty on Monday and followed with a 2-0 shutout over No. 10 Princeton on Friday. Junior Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and senior Caleigh Foust (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) scored the Cavalier goals in both games.
Senior Lucy Hyams (Whitstable, England) added her team-leading fifth assist of the year against Princeton.
Virginia sophomore goalie Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.) earned the first shut out of her career, making a career-high 14 saves. Lucas faced 25 Princeton shots and 10 Tiger penalty corners opportunities.
UConn remains undefeated this season after Anna Middendorf scored the game-winning goal after time had expired in the Huskies’ 2-1 victory at No. 13 Old Dominion on Friday.
Virginia will be just the third ranked team the Huskies have faced in the first seven games of the season. UConn is the second-straight top-10 team UVA has faced and the third overall. This is the first official meeting between the two since 2011, though the teams played one another in a scrimmage last spring.
Virginia will be on the road next week, beginning on Friday, Sept. 23 with a 6 p.m. conference match at No. 18 Boston College and followed by a Sunday, Sept. 25 game at Fairfield.
