Carl Soderlund Advances to Semis at Los Caballeros Futures

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – Virginia men’s tennis freshman Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) competed at the Los Caballeros USTA $10,000 Men’s Futures Tournament in Fountain Valley, Calif., advancing to the semifinals.

Söderlund, the top-seeded player in the tournament, downed wildcard Robert Baylon, 6-2, 6-0, in the opening round before earning a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Evan Zhu in Thursday’s second-round action. Söderlund has advanced to the semifinals after defeating qualifier Alexi Popyrin 6-4, 6-2 on Friday morning. In the semifinals, Söderlund dropped the opening set, 6-4, against Takanyi Garanganga, before winning the second in a tiebraker, 7-1. Garanganga took the third set, 6-4, to end Söderlund’s run.
