Women's Lacrosse Adds 10 Signees

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s lacrosse head coach Julie Myers announced that Lila Barker, Nina Garfinkel, Halle Graham, Chloe Jones, Ashlyn McGovern, Jillie Quevedo, Katherine Bailey, Taylor Regan, Gwin Sinnott and Louise Williamson have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Cavaliers in the 2017-18 season.
“Our coaching staff could not be more excited and proud to announce the 10 early signees,” Myers said. “Each of these players has excelled within their high school and club settings and will be great additions to our program. This is a well-balanced group that can contribute in all areas on the field. The sky is the limit for this talented class that should rank in the top five of all incoming classes.”
Lila Barker (Agnes Irwin) is a midfielder from The Agnes Irwin School, helping lead the team to three InterAc Championships, a PAISAA State Championship in 2015 and a PAISAA State Championship runner-up in 2016. Barker scored 79 goals and tallied 22 assists as a junior to earn US Lacrosse All-American honors and will serve as team captain for the 2017 season. The midfielder has earned numerous honors as a three-time First Team All-Main Line and two-time All-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection and was ranked No. 12 on the 2016 Inside Lacrosse Top 40 Seniors list.
Myers on Barker: “Lila is a true athlete and competitor that leads her teams in the midfield. Her talent, toughness and determination will help her contribute to our team’s success.”
Nina Garfinkel (Hillsborough, Calif.) is a four-year starter at midfield/defense at Taft School. Garfinkel has been named a co-captain as a senior. She participated in the 2015 Nike Elite 120 as well as being a invited to The Ride presented by Nike Lacrosse.
Myers on Garfinkel: “Nina has incredible easy speed that gets her in the right places on the field consistently. She is from California, but plays in Connecticut. She will add a diverse set of experiences and maturity to the team, along with her speed and willingness to do whatever it takes to win the ball.”
Halle Graham (Rockville, Md.) has been selected as a 2016 Top 40 Young Gun Senior after starting three years as a midfield/defender at Our Lady of Good Counsel. A two-time WCAC First Team selection, Graham was named the team captain for 2017. She helped lead Good Counsel to the WCAC 2015 Lacrosse Championships and earned All-Gazette First Team honors that season. Graham was selected to the Women’s National Tournament DC Metro First team in 2015 and third team in 2014 and is a two-time All-Metropolitan Honorable Mention. In 2015, she competed with the USA U17 Team in Scotland. Played in the Under Armour Underclass Tournament in Washington D.C. for three years (2014-16).
Myers on Graham: “Halle can do it all and makes it look easy. She is a true middle that has the ability and versatility to anchor our offense and defense. Her speed and quickness will be relied upon at both ends of the field.”
Chloe Jones (Trenton, N.J.) has been a four-year starter as a midfielder at The Lawrenceville School. Jones was named a 2016 US Lacrosse All-American and is No. 6 on the 2016 Inside Lacrosse Top 50 Seniors list heading into 2017. A three-time New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association All-Pre Team, Trenton Times All-Pre Team and Mid-Atlantic Prep League First Team selection, Jones has totaled 123 goals, 99 assists, 61 ground balls and 156 draws in her high school career.
Myers on Jones: “Chloe is a relentless and fast middle that pushers herself in every setting. Her international experience with the U19 team will help her compete at the highest collegiate level.”
Ashlyn McGovern (Phoenix, Md.) is a midfielder at St. Paul’s School for Girls and has been named a team captain as a senior. McGovern was named to the Maryland Under Armour Underclass Team and was the team MVP as a junior. A Interscholastic Athletic Association for Maryland All-Conference selection, she has tallied 134 goals and 34 assists during her high school career.
Myers on McGovern: “Ashlyn is a tough-nosed, talented attacker. She is always involved in positive things happening on the field as she is consistently in the right places. Her shot and creativity will be a nice addition to the attack.”
Jillie Quevedo (Pittsford, N.Y.) plays defense and midfield at Pittsford Mendon High School. Quevedo has helped lead the team to three sectional and regional championships and a state runner-up finish in 2016 as the first team to go undefeated in Section IV. She is a First Team All-Monroe County selection and has been named a scholar athlete.
Myers on Quevedo: “Jillie is a talented defender that has an exceptionally high lacrosse IQ. She can shut down in one-on-one situations as well as being a great team defender. We will look to use her speed and stick skills in transition as well.”
Katherine Railey (Towson, Md.) is a three-year varsity starter at Notre Dame Prep. An all-conference selection as a junior, Railey was a member of the Under Armour Baltimore Underclass Elite Team and helped lead the team to championships in 2014 and 2015. Invited to participate in The Ride presented by Nike Lacrosse. Named to the National School Girls Baltimore Metro Lacrosse team in 2014.
Myers on Railey: “Katie is a great midfielder that pushes and contributes to both sides of the field. She has great size, strength and grit that compliment her hands and her drive to get to the goal.”
Taylor Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) helped lead Rye County Day School to back-to-back NYSAIS State Championships (2014 & 2015) as an attacker. A two-time US Lacrosse High School All-American (2016 & 2016), Regan enters her senior season with 218 career goals and 103 assists and has been named a 2017 team captain. As a junior, was named to the Under Armour All-America New England Team and was invited to The Ride presented by Nike Lacrosse, an elite experience showcasing some of the top lacrosse recruits in the country. Regan is a three-time Western New England Prep School Athletic All-State and a three time-Fairchester Athletic Association All-League selection.
Myers on Regan: “Taylor is a true talent. She is the whole package with speed, great athleticism, creativity and energy. Taylor is a playmaker that is also a great finisher. She will be a great addition to the attack.”
Gwin Sinnott (Richmond, Va.) is a midfielder from Collegiate High School. Named to the 2016 All-Metro Team and First Team All-State, she was a US High School All-American selection. A two-time All-League of Independent School selection, Sinnott earned the 2016 Team MVP award and has been named a 2017 team captain. She helped Collegiate become the 2014 League of Independent School Champion.
Myers on Sinnott: “Gwin has continued to grow as a player over the years. She is fast, tough and disciplined on the defensive side. Her stick work and game sense will maker her a valuable player in starting our fast breaks out of the defensive end.”
Louise Williamson (Richmond, Va.) is a midfielder at St. Catherine’s School. Williamson has accumulated 119 goals, 44 assists, 89 draw controls, 125 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers so far in her high school career. She is a two-time First Team All-League of Independent Schools selection and was named First Team All-State and First Team All-Metro as a junior. Williamson has served as team captain as a junior and senior.
Myers on Williamson: “Liza is another player that has improved steadily through high school. She is a hard worker and a talented middle. Her energy and work ethic will be a great addition.”
