CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team (5-0) will be competing at the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Men’s Team Indoor Championship being held Feb. 17-20 at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

Dual matches are scheduled at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday with the championship match set for 11 a.m. on Monday. Each of the 16 teams is guaranteed three matches during the championship. Fans can attend the four-day championship free of charge.

Virginia will take on Utah State (7-3) on Friday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the first round.

Fifteen teams qualified for the event by winning their respective 2017 ITA Kick-Off Weekend four-team regional, while Virginia received an automatic bid as the host site. Twelve of the 15 No. 1 seeds in the 2017 ITA Kick-Off Weekend advanced to the National Team Indoor Championship. The teams will compete in a single-elimination tournament over a four-day span to crown a national indoor champion. Each team is guaranteed three matches at the event.

Virginia has opened the season with five wins, including three over ranked teams (No. 6 Florida, No. 15 Kentucky, No. 17 Illinois). Freshman Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) and junior Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) are both undefeated in singles this season, each with identical 5-0 records. Soderlund and senior Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) are 3-1 at No. 1 doubles and are currently ranked No. 55. Senior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.) has won his last four singles matches and is ranked No. 28 in the latest ITA rankings. Senior J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) is ranked No. 64 in singles.

FloTennis will be on site providing live streaming coverage of all four days of competition. FloTennis is a subscription-based service with monthly and annual rate options.

The ITA Division I National Men’s Team Indoor Championship dates back to 1973. Stanford owns the most #ITAIndoors titles with 12, followed by UCLA with seven and the host Cavaliers with five championships. North Carolina claimed its first ITA National Indoors title in 2016, topping the host Cavaliers 4-2 in the final.

The Boar’s Head Sports Club has hosted the ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship in 2010, 2012 and 2016 as well as hosting the Women’s National Team Indoor Championship from 2011 through 2015. Virginia won the team title in 2010 at the Boar’s Head.
