National Champion

Former #UVAWBB All-American and current South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley became the first women’s Final Four Most Outstanding Player to win a national championship as a head coach. Staley led the Cavaliers to three Final Fours as a player, earning MVP honors in 1991. Staley is also only the second African-American woman to coach a national champion.

#UVAWBB alums erupted on Twitter with their congrats for the Hoo/Gamecock, including alums in the pros like Monica Wright and Sharnee Zoll as well as Telia Marks-McCall who was watching the game with Staley’s former coach and Hall of Famer Debbie Ryan.

Look Hoos Back!

Before Saturday’s #UVABase game, former Cavalier and recently-retired MLB pitcher Javier Lopez was honored at Davenport Field.
