#FootballFriday

It’s #FootballFriday here on the blog, with not one, not two, not three, but four stories about “football”. First, former #UVAWSOC All-American Emily Sonnett sat down for a Q&A with The Equalizer about her season with Portland Thorns FC. Sonnett was Portland’s No. 1 pick in the 2016 NWSL College Draft. She has started all 13 games so far, logging over 1,100 minutes for a defense that has let in only 12 goals this season.

On the #UVAMSOC side, Chris Tierney and the New England Revolution had advanced to the quarterfinals of the Open Cup Quarterfinals. Hear from Tierney at the 1:05 mark of this podcast talking about the match-up against the New York Red Bulls.

Former Hoo Derrick Etienne was named to the MLS Homegrown Game, scheduled for August 1 in Chicago. It marks the second-straight year that UVA has had an alum in the game as Jordan Allen competed in 2016.

And, we will close with this Instagram photo of current head coach George Gelnovatch posted by @servicedogsva. Coach Gelnovatch and his wife, Missi, train service dogs.
