BUDAPEST, Hungary- Virginia redshirt junior Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.) finished second at the FINA World Championships on Thursday (July 20) in Budapest, Hungary in the 5k open water mixed team relay.

Casey, swimming the first leg of the event, opened with a time of 14:00.3 giving the U.S. an early lead. Ashley Twichell, Haley Anderson and Jordan Wilimovsky, respectively, rounded out the team, recording a time of 54.18.1 for silver.

France captured gold in the event with a time of 54.05.9. Italy finished third with a time of 54.31.0.

The event was the second of the week for Casey who competed in the men’s 10k open water swim on Tuesday (July 18). He recorded a time of 1:52.18.6, finishing ninth in the world.
