Virginia men’s tennis player junior Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) competed in the singles draw of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships this week (Nov. 1-3) at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

Lizen advanced to the Round of 16 after picking up wins on Wednesday and Thursday. He opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Runhao Hua of Michigan in the Round of 64. On Thursday, Lizen took out eighth-seeded Johannes Schretter of Baylor, 6-0, 6-2. Lizen was eliminated with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to 16-seed Thomas Laurent of Oregon in the Round of 16.

Lizen finished the fall tennis season with a 12-1 record in singles.

The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features a 64-player singles draw, while doubles consist of a 32-team draw. Matches will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.

Lizen qualified for the championship by winning the singles title at the ITA Atlantic Regional, held Oct. 19-24 in Lynchburg, Va.
