San Lucas, Mexico – The No. 21 Virginia women’s golf team used a strong final-round performance to move up to a fourth-place finish at the Battle at the Beach at Club Campestre San Jose Golf Club in San Lucas, Mexico. Virginia shot even par 284 on Sunday and completed the 54-hole event at 13-over 865. UCLA took top honors at 839 followed by Oklahoma (844) and Texas (848).

Junior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) turned in UVA’s top performance, finishing 18th at 3-over 216. She shot even par 71 during the final found. Sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was 22nd at 217. She posted a final-round score of 74. Ford’s 54-hole total was her lowest tournament score as a collegiate.

UVA junior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) led the Hoos on Sunday by shooting 2-under 69 to move up to a tie for 26th place with freshman teammate Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.). The round was Gonzales’ best 18-hole score this fall.

Lillie shot 74 and, along with Gonzales, ended play at 5-over 218. Junior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) rounded out UVA’s scoring by placing 38th at 220. She shot 70 during the final round.

Sophomore Jue Hee Bae (Chantilly, Va.), who competed as a non-scoring individual, was 65th at 230. She shot 75, her best score of the weekend, during the final round.

The tournament was UVA’s final event of its fall season.
