ATHENS, Ga.- The Virginia men’s and women’s swim teams concluded the second day of the Georgia Fall Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 2) in Athens, Ga., at the Gabrielsen Natatorium with the women’s team in fourth place (389.5 points) and the men’s team in fifth place (241 points).

No. 4 Michigan led the women’s competition at the conclusion of day two (670.5 points), while No. 2 California paced the men’s competition (670 points).

The Virginia women’s team advanced four swimmers into the A finals of the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Abby Richter (Henderson, Nev.) paced the team with a fifth-place finish (53.28), while freshman Emma Seiberlich (Audubon, Pa.) finished sixth (53.43), senior Caitlin Cooper (Atlanta, Ga.) finished seventh (53.61) and junior Megan Moroney (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) finished eighth (53.98).

Freshman Erin Earley (Orange, Con..) and junior Rachel Politi (Bexley, Ohio) competed in the top heat of the 400-yard individual medley. Earley finished fifth in the event (4:14.68), while Politi finished eighth (4:19.29).

Additionally, senior Jennifer Marrkand (Westford, Mass.) captured a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.92) and freshman Anna Pang (SINGAPORE) placed eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (53.46).

In the men’s competition, sophomore Joe Clark (Worcester Park, Great Britain) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (46.25). Sophomore Ryan Baker (Arlington, Va.) touched the wall in fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:36.50), while sophomore Ted Schubert (Ashland, Va.) placed eighth in the 400-yard individual medley (3:48.04).

In the 200-yard medley relay, the women’s team of Moroney, junior Vivian Tafuto (Hummelstown, Pa.), Pang and Cooper, respectively, finished fourth (1:37.77), while the men’s team of Clark, freshman Joseph Barnum (Louisville, Ky.), junior Zach Fong (Moorestown, N.J.) and Baker, respectively, placed fifth (1:26.38).

The Cavaliers will compete in the final day of competition tomorrow at the Georgia Fall Invitational. The preliminary races will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by the finals at 3 p.m.
