Hoos Still on Fire

Two-time #NCAAWTEN singles champion Danielle Collins continues her tear through WTA tournaments, advancing to the semis at the Miami Open, a feat that in and of itself is an accomplishment. Making it into the main draw itself was an accomplishment, as she did so by advancing through the qualifying tournament, but her trip to the semis came via the biggest win of her career. Collins defeated one of her idols, Venus Williams, 6-2, 6-3 in Wednesday night’s quarterfinal match. Collins was ranked No. 167 in the world at the start of the year and at the end of this tournament will be ranked no lower than the mid 60’s. She will face  sixth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko, the French Open champion, in the semis tonight in the final match of the day.Â
