CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia has earned an at-large bid to compete in the 2018 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship. The Cavaliers will compete in the New York Regional, hosted by Columbia University, that is being held next Friday and Saturday, May 11-12, at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y.

The Cavaliers (13-12) are the No. 2 seed in the regional and will face three-seed VCU (16-9) in a first-round match at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11. Columbia (17-4), the No. 16 overall seed in the tournament and the one-seed in the regional, will take on Monmouth (15-13) at 1 p.m. on Friday. The winners of the first-round matches will face one another at noon on Saturday, May12.

“This is a great opportunity for our team and I know the guys are really excited,” said Virginia head coach Andres Pedroso. “Any time you can play in an NCAA Tournament, and play against the best teams in the country, it is an honor and a privilege. I know that our guys are going to represent the University of Virginia in a world-class manner. They have put in the work. They have competed hard. They have grown together and they are ready for this opportunity.”

The defending-national champion Cavaliers have earned their 15th-consecutive NCAA Championship bid. Virginia has won three-straight NCAA championships and four of the last five. The Cavaliers have played in six of the last seven NCAA finals, have reached the quarterfinals 13-straight seasons, made semifinal appearances in 10 of the past 11 years and have won the title in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 17.

The winner of the regional will advance to the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where the final 16 teams will compete for the national championship May 18-22. The event will be hosted by Wake Forest University.
