Tempe, Ariz. – Virginia redshirt junior Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.) qualified for the USA Open Water National Team on Friday (May 4) with a fourth-place finish in the 10k at the USA Open Water National Championships in Tempe, Ariz.

Casey recorded a time of 1:48:09.39 in the event, qualifying for the national team with a fourth-place finish.

The UVA swimmer will now compete at the French Open Water Championships May 31 in Gravelines, France. The meet will serve as the qualifier for the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, Japan, Aug. 14. The top-two U.S. finishers at the French Open Water Championships will compete at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Casey swam in the 2017 USA Open Water National Championships, finishing second in the meet with a time of 1:58:37.383. His finish qualified him for the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where he placed ninth in the event.
