UVA Opens Play at Carpet Capital Collegiate in Seventh Place

Rocky Face, Ga. – The Virginia men’s golf team opened its season on Friday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. The Cavaliers finished the first day tied for seventh place after shooting six-over 294. Tennessee grabbed the early lead by shooting 8-under 280 while host school Georgia Tech is in second place at 281.
Senior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) led the Cavaliers by shooting 1-under 71 to end the first round tied for eighth place. Sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Phillipines) is in 42nd place after shooting 3-over 75. Freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.) was in 58th place with a 77 and junior Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) is 67th at 78.
The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday at The Farm Golf Club. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
