Cavaliers Close out Fall Schedule at Wake Forest Fall Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed as individuals at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational from Friday, Nov. 9 through Sunday, Nov. 11., in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Freshmen Ethan Moszkowski (New York, N.Y.) sophomores Spencer Bozsik (Charlottesville, Va.), Gianni Ross (Chicago, Ill.), Matthew Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Ammar Alhaqbani (Alexandria, Va.) and senior Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) competed in doubles and singles. Junior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman William Woodall (Washington, D.C.) competed only in doubles.
The weekend’s performances were highlighted by two doubles teams winning their draws. Ross and Woodall won the A1 doubles draw while Söderlund and Lord went 3-0 in the A2 bracket. Ross won his first two singles matches to advance to the semifinals in the A2 bracket before falling to Biran Cernoch of North Carolina.
This was the final collegiate tournament of the fall season for the squad. Dual match season begins Thursday, January 17 when the Cavaliers host William & Mary.
