UVA Opens Battle at the Beach in Tied for Fourth
San Lucas, Mexico – The No. 9 Virginia women’s golf team shot 14-over 298 and is tied for fourth place after the opening round of play at the Battle at the Beach at Club Campestre San Jose Golf Club in San Lucas, Mexico. Auburn leads the 17-team field after the opening 18 holes of play at 3-over 287.
UVA junior Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) posted the team’s best score, shooting 1-over 72 to finish the round in eighth place. Senior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is one shot behind her on the leaderboard in 12th position. Senior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) turned in a round of 76 and is in 34th place while sophomore Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) is 45th with a 77. Senior Anna Redding shot 78 and is in 56th place.
Auburn’s Kaleigh Telfer was one of three players to shoot under par for the day. She leads the field at 2-under 69.
Virginia will be paired with TCU, Tulane and Oklahoma for Saturday’s second round. Those teams start at 10:30 a.m. ET.
