No. 12 Virginia Men Defeat Fordham 9-0
Bronx, N.Y.- The No. 12 Virginia men’s squash team (3-3) defeated Fordham (7-4) on Friday (Nov. 30) at the Lombardi Squash Center, sweeping the Rams 9-0 in the match.
The Cavaliers captured 3-0 victories on seven courts in addition to winning positions eight and nine by default.
Senior Jarett Odrich (Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman Glenn Yates (Cape Town, South Africa) led the team as Odrich held his opponent scoreless in two games, defeating George Holiat 11-0, 11-3, 11-0 in position seven, and freshman Glenn Yates (Cape Town, South Africa) held his opponent scoreless in one game, topping Dylan Panichello 11-0, 11-4, 11-6 in position six.
Freshman Patrick McElroy (Brookline, Mass.) captured an 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 victory in position one against Griffin Fitzgerald, while junior Toby Hansford topped position two 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 against Tommy White.
Freshman Will Holey (Greenwich, Conn.) and senior Grayson Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) won positions three and four, respectively. Holey recorded an 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 win against Winthrop Reed as Bubrosky defeated Justin Esposito 11-4, 11-6, 11-2. Sophomore William Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) rounded out the lineup with an 11-4, 11-3, 11-6 win against Justin Deckoff in position five.
The Cavaliers will face Cornell and Columbia in matches tomorrow at Columbia’s SL Green StreetSquash facility.
