Rocky Face, Ga. – The Virginia men’s golf team used a 10-shot improvement from its first-round result to move into a tie for fifth place after 36 holes of play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 4-under 284 on Saturday for a two-day total of 2-over 578.
 
Georgia Tech and Tennessee share the lead heading into Sunday’s final round at 20-under 556.
 
UVA senior All-American Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) shot 3-under 69 and ended the day in eighth place at 4-under 140 for 36 holes. Georgia Tech’s Tyler Strafaci and Tennessee’s Jake Meehorst share the tournament lead at 9-under 135.
 
Cavalier sophomore Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) posted a score of 72 and dropped back to 15th place at 1-under 143. Freshman David Morgan (Naples, Fla.) shared UVA scoring honors on the day with Walsh by also posting a score of 69. He moved up to 29th place on the leaderboard with a two-day total of 146.
 
Virginia sophomore WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) is 54th at 150 and junior Andrew Orischak is 66th at 152. Gao posted a second-day score of 75 while Orischak shot 74.
 
The final round of the tournament is set for Sunday at The Farm Golf Club. The Hoos will tee off starting at 8:50 a.m. from the first tee while paired with South Carolina and Auburn. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
