Guy, Hunter Earn Sporting News All-America Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Kyle Guy (Indianapolis, Ind.) and redshirt sophomore De’Andre Hunter (Philadelphia, Pa.) earned Sporting News All-America Third-Team honors, announced on Monday (March 11).
This is the second All-America honor for Guy, who leads the Cavaliers with 15.3 points per game. Guy ranks first in the ACC in 3-pointers per game (3.2), third in 3-point percentage (45.1%), ninth in minutes (34.2), 10th in field goal percentage (46.3%) and 12th in scoring (15.3). Guy has scored 20 or more points in seven games and his 97 3-pointers this season rank fourth on UVA’s single-season list.
Hunter is averaging a career-high 15.2 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. He ranks third in in the ACC in field goal percentage (53.3%), seventh in free throw percentage (78.7%) and 13th in scoring (15.2). Hunter has recorded two double-doubles this season, including a 20-point and 10 rebound effort vs. Notre Dame. Hunter earned Battle 4 Atlantis MVP honors and ACC Player of the Week accolades after averaging 19.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in the tournament.
Virginia has now had 11 players earn All-America honors, while Guy is the fifth player at UVA to earn multiple All-America honors. Hunter joins, Guy (2018-19), Malcolm Brogdon (2015-16), Justin Anderson (2016), Mike Scott (2012), Sean Singletary (2007), Ralph Sampson (1980-83), Jeff Lamp (1980-81), Barry Parkhill (1972-73), Buzzy Wilkinson (1955) and William Strickling (1915).
