Bennett Named NABC District 2 Coach of the Year
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has named Virginia’s Tony Bennett District 2 Coach of the Year Friday (March 22).
Bennett has guided the Cavaliers to a 29-3 record and sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Bennett was named ACC Coach of the Year for the fourth time as the Cavaliers went 16-2 to capture their fourth regular-season league title in the last six years.
UVA registered an ACC-record five ranked road wins, tied for most all-time with UConn (1998-99) and has tied a school-record with eight ranked wins in 2018-19.
Bennett also earned NABC District 2 Coach of the Year honors in 2014, 2015 and 2018.
No. 1 seed Virginia plays No. 16 seed Gardner-Webb in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this afternoon. Tipoff is set for approximately 3 p.m. on truTV.
