No. 6 Virginia Closes Out the Regular Season on Friday at No. 20 Wake Forest

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 6 Virginia field hockey team (14-3, 3-2 ACC) plays its game of the 2019 regular season at No. 20 Wake Forest (8-9, 0-5 ACC) on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Virginia brings a six-game win streak into Friday’s contest
  • Virginia’s last seven games have all been decided by one goal, going 6-1 in that span
  • Virginia is in a three-way tie for second place in the ACC with Louisville and Boston College, all with 3-2 records with one conference game remaining
  • The bracket for the ACC Championship will be announced on Saturday after the conclusion of the Syracuse/Louisville game
  • The Cavaliers picked up a 1-0 victory over No. 17 Liberty on Monday night after having the weekend off
  • Freshman Laura Janssen (Nijmegen, Netherlands) scored the game-winning goal with 2:28 remaining in regulation, knocking in a pass from sophomore Peyton Tollaksen (Chesapeake, Va.) from a scrum in front of the goal
  • It was the sixth shutout of the season for Lauren Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.) and the UVA defense
  • Hausheer (West Windsor, N.J.) is eighth in the nation with a 1.01 goals-against average
  • Hausheer is second in the ACC with a .746 save percentage
  • Senior back Anzel Viljoen (Matamata, New Zealand) leads the team in points with 20 (six goals, eight assists)
  • Viljoen is third in the ACC with 0.47 assists per game. Sophomore midfielder Annie McDonough (Kennett Square, Pa.) is fourth at 0.44 per game
  • Head coach Michele Madison has 408 career wins. The win over Liberty moved her ahead of Cheryl Murtagh and into eighth place on the Division I field hockey coaches’ all-time wins list

 
Scouting Wake Forest

  • Wake Forest’s Kentner Stadium is the host site for this year’s field hockey NCAA Semifinals and Championship
  • The Demon Deacons remained at No. 20 in this week’s poll with an 8-9 overall record. They were ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll
  • Wake is 5-3 at home this season
  • Wake Forest is looking for its first ACC win. They have been topped by at least two goals in each conference contest this season
  • Wake is coming off a 5-0 win against Appalachian State on Sunday. UVA assistant coach Rachel Dawson’s sister, Meghan Dawson, is their head coach
  • Anne van Hoof leads the team with 15 points and seven goals
  • Goalie Isla Bint has a 1.67 goals-against average and a .655 save percentage

  • Boston College is hosting the 2019 ACC Field Hockey Championship. First-round games will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7 with the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8 and the championship match on Sunday, Nov. 10
