• Virginia comes into the series having lost three-straight games, including both games of an ACC doubleheader against Duke last Sunday.
• The Cavaliers are in the midst of a four-game road swing, the first of three, four-game road stints away from Charlottesville this season.
• Georgia Tech rebounded after dropping two out of three at Miami last weekend with a 7-6 midweek win over Georgia Southern. Three of the last four games for the Yellow Jackets have been decided by one run.
• Virginia has won four of the last five games against Georgia Tech and seven of the last 10.
• Head Coach Brian O’Connor is 31-18-1 against Georgia Tech in his tenure while Georgia Tech holds a 73-57-2 advantage in the all-time series that began in 1924.
• Last season’s series at Disharoon Park came down to game three on Monday night on ESPNU in which the Cavaliers took, 8-4 behind 13 strikeouts from Daniel Lynch. The finale was delayed two and half hours due to weather, started at 9:31 p.m. and finished just before 1 a.m.
 
Midweek Recap
• Liberty used single-inning rallies of seven (5th) and five (8th) to power its way to a 14-5 win over Virginia in Lynchburg on Wednesday.
• The loss snapped a nine-game win streak against the Flames.
• Virginia held an initial 3-0 advantage over the first four innings
 
From the Batters Box
• Freshman Nic Kent continued his hot hitting on Wednesday with a pair of hits against Liberty. He has raised his batting average 111 points over the span of his current six-game hit streak.
• Classmate Zack Gelof owns the team’s longest reached base streak, getting on base in all 16 games this season. He has a hit in nine of the last 10 games, including four-multi-hit efforts.
• Logan Michaels appeared in his 12th game Wednesday and slipped into the top-25 in the country in batting. Needing 3.0 plate appearances per game, he brings a .448 batting average into the series, the 21st highest in D-1.
• Primarily serving as the team’s designated hitter, Brendan Rivoli turned in his ninth multi-hit game on Wednesday to lead the team. His .344 batting average is the 10th highest in the ACC going into the weekend. He has reached base safely in 11-straight games.
• Three players, Nate Eikhoff, Kent and Alex Tappen each carry a six-game hit streak into the series.
• Tappen has accumulated 10 RBI in his last six games, including two of the five RBI against Liberty on Wednesday.
• Junior Cayman Richardson headlines the Cavaliers ability to move runners over. Virginia ranks sixth in the country in sacrifice bunts (15) with five to Richardson’s credit, the fifth most in the country.
 
Hoos on the Mound
• The Virginia starting rotation has included Noah Murdock, Griff McGarry and Mike Vasil for the first four weekends of the year.
• Saturday’s starting pitcher Griff McGarry leads the staff in quality starts with three. On Sunday against Duke he suffered the loss despite allowing just two runs over seven innings of work. After giving up six of his eight hits in the first two innings he settled in, retiring 13 of the next 15. Two of his four starts have been quality starts including matchups against Cal State Fullerton and Seton Hall.
