CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.), a freshman on the Virginia women’s tennis team, has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week by the league office with the release of its weekly awards on Tuesday (March 19).

It is the first ACC weekly honor for O’Dell, who earned the recognition after posting a straight-set win over No. 29 Brienne Minor of Michigan last week. She won 7-5, 7-6 (3) over Minor who was the 2017 NCAA Women’s Singles Champion. Her singles victory helped the Cavaliers to a 5-2 road victory over No. 23 Michigan as she clinched the match on court three. It marked the second consecutive win over a top-30 opponent for O’Dell who defeated then No. 20 Cameron Morra of North Carolina a week prior.

O’Dell and the No. 22 Virginia women’s tennis team will continue to play on the road this week, returning to conference action with matches at Pittsburgh and No. 3 Duke over the weekend. The Cavaliers face Pittsburgh at 3 p.m. on Friday (March 22) before facing the Blue Devils at noon on Sunday (March 24).
