CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –The No. 27 Virginia women’s tennis team (12-5) returns home to kick off a four-match homestand starting with No. 32 Old Dominion (15-2) at 3 p.m. on Thursday (March 28) at the Snyder Tennis Center.

Admission to all home Virginia women’s tennis matches is free.

VIRGINIA IN THE TEAM RANKINGS
The Cavaliers dropped a few spots in the latest Oracle/ITA Women’s Team Rankings to No. 27 in this week’s release after a split week with a win at Pittsburgh and a loss at No. 3 Duke. 

VIRGINIA IN THE INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Virginia is represented in the individual rankings with three players ranked. Senior Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) comes in at No. 39 in singles, while freshman Amber O’Dell (New Milford, N.J.) makes her first appearance in the rankings at No. 68. Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) makes her first appearance of the year at No. 108 in singles.

Kelley and freshman Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia) are the No. 19 doubles tandem in the most recent individual rankings released. Also in the doubles rankings is the tandem of Gullickson and O’Dell at No. 70 in the polls.

THE SERIES WITH OLD DOMINION
Virginia and Old Dominion have faced each other 30 times with the Cavaliers holding a 25-5 lead in a series that began in the spring of 1978. The two teams split the last two meetings with Virginia winning in the 2017 season, while Old Dominion won the season opener against the Cavaliers in 2018. The two teams had not faced each other for seven years prior to that 2017 season. Virginia is 9-1 in the last 10 meetings with the Monarchs.

 A LOOK AT THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters the midweek matchup with an overall record of 15-2 this season and are on a seven-match win streak. The two losses for the Monarchs came on the road at then No. 4 Duke and at No. 16 LSU. Despite not having a singles player or doubles tandem in the ITA rankings, Old Dominion also has wins at No. 24 Tennessee and at No. 50 Baylor on the way to the 15-2 record.

UP NEXT FOR THE HOOS
Virginia will continue to play at home, moving back into ACC competition on Sunday (March 31) with a noon contest against No. 33 Georgia Tech at the Snyder Tennis center. It will be the first of three consecutive home matches in ACC play for the Cavaliers in this four-match home stand.
