CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Third-ranked Florida State (33-3, 6-1 ACC) used nine hits, including a pair of home runs, to key an 11-0, run-rule victory over Virginia (16-15, 5-5 ACC) in the series opener on Friday night (March 29).
 
Allyson Frei (Branchville, N.J.) made the start in the circle for Virginia and took the loss. She allowed six runs on five hits.
 
Meghan King (17-1) earned the win for the Seminoles, working three scoreless innings while scattering three hits.
 
KEY INNING
Florida State used four hits to plate four runs in the top of the second inning. Carsyn Gordon produced an infield single to score the first run before Sydney Sherrill cleared the bases with a three-run double to give the Seminoles a 6-0 lead.

TOUCHING HOME
• A pair of two-out walks and a Dani Morgan double to right center put Florida State up 2-0 in the first.
• Four hits in the second inning plated four runs for the Seminoles to extend the lead to 6-0.
• Gordon added to the FSU lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning and Morgan made it 10-0 with a three-run home run.
• The Seminoles added their 11th run on a fielder’s choice from Gordon in the fifth.

ON THE LINES
• Senior Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) doubled at the plate and worked two innings in relief for Virginia.
• Freshman Tori Gilbert (Mechanicsville, Va.) added a hit for the Cavaliers to extend her reached-base streak to eight games.
• Sophomore Hayley Busby (Phoenix, Ariz.) ripped her 11th double of the season.
• Senior Tabby Dabney (Mechanicsville, Va.) worked an inning in relief and did not allow a run.

UP NEXT
Virginia and Florida State meet in game two of the series on Saturday (March 30) with a 1 p.m. first pitch at The Park. The game is designated Unite in the Fight to Strikeout Cancer, as both the Cavaliers and Seminoles will recognize those who fight the disease.
