CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s tennis grad student Carl Söderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week as well as earning the ACC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week accolade alongside junior William Woodall (Washington, D.C.) in honors announced Tuesday (March 10) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Söderlund helped lead the Cavaliers to victories in the first-ever matches played at the new Virginia Tennis Center at the Boar’s Head Resort. In the maiden match at the facility, Söderlund picked up a 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory over No. 34 Adria Sorriano Barrera of Miami on the top singles court en route to UVA’s 7-0 sweep of the Hurricanes. On Monday, Söderlund dominated in a 6-3, 6-0 win against the Seminoles’ top player.

In doubles, Woodall and Söderlund defeated the No. 22-ranked duo from Miami, 6-1, on Friday. On Monday, they battled to a 7-5 win against Alex Knaff and Sebastian Arcila to clinch a tightly-contested doubles point against Florida State. The duo have won their last five doubles decisions.

This is the third different UVA tandem to be been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week as junior Ryan Goetz (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and freshman Chris Rodesch (Angelsberg, Luxembourg) earned the honor on January 26 and freshmen Jeffrey von der Schulenburg (Zurich, Switzerland) and Iñaki Montes (Pamplona, Spain) won it last week.

Söderlund is the second Cavalier to be named the ACC Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week, joining von der Schulenburg who won it on January 26. This is Söderlund’s fourth ACC Player of the Week honor in his career and his second ACC Doubles accolade.

This is the first ACC weekly honor of Woodall’s career.
