CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia will host Iowa in the 23rd B1G/ACC Challenge on Monday, Nov. 29. Tip times and networks for this year’s Challenge, which includes 14 games, will be announced at a later date.

All 14 Big Ten teams and 14 of the 15 ACC teams will participate in the 2021 Challenge. Boston College will not play in the 2021 event.

Virginia and Iowa meet for the first time in the Challenge and fourth overall. The Cavaliers are 1-2 all-time against the Hawkeyes, including a 74-41 win in the last meeting between the teams in the semifinals of the Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Fla., on Nov. 25, 2016. Iowa defeated UVA 73-60 in the first round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament and added a 75-64 win over the Cavaliers in the quarterfinals of the 2013 NIT.

UVA has a 13-7 record in the Challenge. The Cavaliers have won eight of their last 10 Challenge games and are 7-2 all-time at home in the event. UVA’s ACC/B1G Challenge contest vs. Michigan State last season was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Cavaliers’ program

In 2020-21, Virginia finished 18-7 overall and captured its 10th ACC regular-season championship with a 13-4 record. UVA made its seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance and finished 15th in the final AP rankings.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the event, matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioner’s Cup. All games will also be available to stream via the ESPN app.

The ACC leads 12-7-3 in the series and 138-113 in games. The ACC won the first 10 consecutive challenges, while the Big Ten has won six of the last eight along with two ties. The most recent challenge was won 7-5 by the Big Ten. In the 22 years of the event, 10 of the challenges have been decided by a single game.
