CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia women’s tennis team opened the fall portion of its schedule by hosting the Wahoowa Invitational tournament Friday through Sunday (Sept. 17-19) at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

Freshman Elaine Chervinsky won all three of her singles matches over the weekend, wrapping things up with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against NC State’s Sophie Abrams. Senior Sofia Munera also closed out the tournament with a victory, winning a third-set tiebreaker 15-13 to take the win against Alexandra Nielsen of Penn State.

Chervinsky and fellow freshman Melodie Collard partnered for another doubles win, downing the Wolfpack’s Abigail Rencheli and Amelia Rajecki 6-2. Munera and sophomore Hibah Shaikh also won in doubles against an NC State tandem by a 6-3 score.

Virginia will be on the road next weekend in North Caroline, with part of the squad competing at the Spotlight Ranked Tournament in Cary and others at the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill.
