CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 8 Virginia men’s tennis team (14-5, 8-0 ACC) travels to play at No. 12 Kentucky (15-4, 6-1 SEC) on Thursday, March 31 at 5 p.m. at the Hilary J Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington, Ky.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Cavaliers moved up three spots to No. 8 in this week’s ITA team rankings
  • Virginia has won its last nine matches; Kentucky is on a five-match win streak
  • The Cavaliers, who sit alone atop the standings with an 8-0 conference record, have a bye week from ACC play
  • The match against Kentucky was originally scheduled for Feb. 4 but was postponed due to a snow storm
  • The Cavaliers swept the ACC weekly awards for the second time this season with Chris Rodesch being named the ACC Player of the Week and Ryan Goetz and Iñaki Montes lauded as the ACC Doubles Team of the Week
  • Rodesch leads the team with an 18-4 singles record with 11 victories against ranked opponents. He is No. 16 in the most-recent ITA Singles rankings
  • Goetz and Montes are 9-1 in doubles including a 6-1 mark this spring
  • Montes is 12-2 in singles and is currently ranked No. 29
  • Jeffrey von der Schulenburg has won his last nine completed matches

NOTING KENTUCKY

  • During Kentucky-s five-match win streak, four of those victories have been with 4-3 final scores
  • Gabriel Diallo is 10-0 in singles this spring, including a 9-0 mark at the No. 3 court, and 24-3 overall. He is ranked No. 9 in the ITA Singles Rankings. He won the consolation final at the ITA Fall National Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA All-American
  • Junior Liam Draxl was the 2021 ITA National Player of the Year and was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship. He is 9-3 this season, all at the No. 1 position
  • Millen Hurrion is 11-2 at No. 2
  • Joshua Lapadat is 13-1 on the season and has won his last nine completed matches
  • Virginia leads the all-time series 8-6

  • The Cavaliers are on the road next weekend, playing at Florida State on Friday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. and at Miami on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m.
