CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 19th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is at Georgia this week for the Bulldogs’ Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic that runs March 24-26. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is held at the University of Georgia Golf Course (par 72, 6,327 yards) in Athens.

Each round starts at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees for the 15-team field.

Now in its 51st year, the tournament began in 1973 as the Georgia Invitational before becoming the Women’s Southern Intercollegiates from 1977-94. In 1995, the tourney was renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, UGA’s Hall of Fame golf coach and long-time Senior Woman Administrator.

This year’s field includes (with Golfstat ranking): Alabama (45), Arkansas (44), Auburn (10), Col. of Charleston (47), Daytona State, Florida (21), Georgia (29), Georgia Southern, Louisville, North Carolina, Purdue, San Diego State, South Carolina (4) and Texas A&M (9).

Virginia’s lineup features Amanda Sambach, Megan Propeck, Riley Smyth, Jennifer Cleary and Celeste Valinho. Rebecca Skoler will compete as an individual.
