CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Athletics Foundation and Virginia Athletics announced today (June 11) the creation of the 1.15.41 Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund will honor the lives of Virginia football players Lavel Davis Jr. (No. 1), Devin Chandler (No.15) and D’Sean Perry (No. 41).  The three UVA students were killed in the shooting tragedy on Grounds on Nov. 13, 2022.

Davis Jr., Chandler, and Perry carried themselves with a sense of love and perseverance that will forever impact the Virginia Athletics family. To forever honor these three young men and the qualities they brought to UVA, each season the Virginia football program will award 1.15.41 Memorial Fund scholarships to three team members who embody the qualities these young men carried with them.

“The 1.15.41 Memorial Fund is a powerful reminder and testament to the impact of Devin, Lavel and D’Sean,” said Virginia director of athletics Carla Williams. “Their memory lives on through the recipients of this scholarship and we are extremely grateful for the establishment of this endowment.”

The 1.15.41 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established thanks to a generous anonymous donor who committed $1 million to honor the lives of these three student-athletes. The fund will focus on carrying forward the legacy of these young men and ensuring their lasting impact on Virginia Football.

Donors supporting the scholarship endowment will receive a 50 percent matching gift for donations of any size. Any gift over $2,500 made by July 2025 will be recognized on a plaque in the new Molly and Robert Hardie Football Operations Center.

Virginia Athletics has made it a priority to ensure that the spirit of Lavel, Devin and D’Sean is not only remembered but lives on in the Virginia Athletics and the Charlottesville community.

“Lavel, Devin and D’Sean were more than just three football players,” said Fralin Family Head Football Coach Tony Elliott. “They were three young men whose spirit and lives have touched entire communities.  This memorial scholarship fund is about making sure every player who puts on the Virginia uniform knows these three men will forever be a part of the Virginia Football family.”

While the first home football game each season will be the designated UVA Strong game to celebrate and honor Davis Jr., Chandler and Perry, the memorial fund will establish a way for their legacy to be present every day in the Virginia Football program.
