CARY, N.C. –  Virginia women’s tennis team members will compete at the ITA Women’s All-American Championship Sept. 21-29 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

The All-American is the first opportunity for players to qualify for this year’s NCAA Individual Championships. Ten singles players will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (eight main draw quarterfinalists & two feed-in consolation finalists). Four doubles teams will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the All-American Championships (four main draw semifinalists).

Since 1983, the ITA Women’s All-American Championships have featured the nation’s top NCAA Division I players and have been a pioneer in women’s college tennis. In addition, the event has created milestones that have directly influenced the popularity of women’s collegiate tennis over the years.

The 2024 ITA Women’s All-American Championships will have a draw size of the following, Singles: Pre-Qualifying (128), Qualifying (64), Main Draw (64) and Doubles: Pre-Qualifying (32), Qualifying (32), Main Draw (32). Sixteen players will advance from prequalifying into the qualifying draw. Sixteen players will advance from the qualifying draw into the main draw. Each bracket also has consolation rounds for players who drop their first-round matches.

Freshman Marina Genis Salas and sophomore Blanca Pico Navarro start play on Saturday (Sept. 21) in prequalifying singles. Seniors Elaine Chervinsky and Mélodie Collard begin on Monday (Sept. 23) in qualifying while junior Annabelle Xu earned spots in the main draw that begins on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Grad student Sara Ziodato also qualified for the singles main draw but withdrew.

Collard, Chervinsky, Ziodato and junior Meggie Navarro are all in the main doubles draw. Collard and Chervinsky are the 2-seed in the draw.

MAIN DRAW

Main Draw matches for singles and doubles begin on Wednesday.

QUALIFYING

Melodie Collard advanced through qualifying to earn a spot in the singles main draw. She picked up two victories, topping  Ria Bhakta of Clemson is straight sets in the opening round before winning a three-set battle against Xin Tong Wang of Wichita State in the qualifying final. Elaine Chervinsky advanced to the qualifying final with a three-set win against Ahmani Guichard of UCLA before falling against Kailey Evans of San Diego.
