Jason Freeman is the Sports Psychologist in the University of Virginia’s Athletics Department, where he serves 25 varsity teams by providing mental health and well-being treatment, life and sport performance enhancement, concussion education/management, and psychoeducation of athletes, teams, and coaches.

In 2023, Freeman was recognized with a Leonard W. Sandridge Outstanding Contributor Award for exceptional contributions to both UVA and the community. The honor is named for a former University leader who dedicated more than four decades to UVA, rising to the post of executive vice president and chief operating officer. Sandridge was noted, among other things, for championing employees and celebrating their successes.

He previously worked at the UVA School of Medicine for 14 years, specializing in Sport Concussion, TBI, epilepsy, and cognitive and emotional impacts of End Stage Organ Disease and HIV.

Dr. Freeman is a licensed clinical psychologist and earned his Ph.D. from George Mason University.
