CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore Katie Tracy (Richmond, VA/James River) scored the game winning goal with a diving header off a cross from Darci Borski (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) with nine seconds remaining in double overtime to give the Virginia Cavaliers a 3-2 victory over the James Madison Dukes before 1,207 at Kloeckner Stadium.

The Dukes struck first at the 12 minute mark when JMU senior Therese Wolden took a pass from senior Lisa Cioffi and shot the ball in the lower righthand corner of the Virginia goal. The Cavaliers tied the game 1-1 on a lone goal by junior Angela Hucles (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy), a second-team preseason all-American and a Hermann Trophy finalist. Hucles’ goal, in the 29th minute, broke the record for career goals scored (37) set by Angela Rubio (1989-1992).

Five minutes later, at the 43 minute mark, Borski crossed the ball to the right side of the field and Hucles headed the ball into the upper lefthand corner of the Dukes’ goal to make the score 2-1 at the half.

The Dukes rallied to tie the game in the 73rd minute with a goal by James Madison junior Jen Keefe off of a Christy Yacono corner kick. The goal, which made the score 2-2, sent the game into overtime.

The Cavaliers improve their record to 2-0, and will face Penn State on Tuesday, (Sept. 8) at Kloeckner Stadium. Game time against the Nittany Lions is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
