HOUSTON – Freshman Amy O’Donnell claimed the championship of the B flight at the Rice Tennis Classic this weekend in Houston, Texas.

O’Donnell, playing in just her second collegiate event, defeated Texas senior Laura Berendt 6-4, 6-1 in the finals to win her title. O’Donnell breezed through her flight, winning all four matches without dropping a set.

O’Donnell’s classmate Christine Kim fell in the finals of Flight C to Judith Hagedorn of Rice 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 this afternoon.

O’Donnell very nearly made it a perfect tournament for herself. She teamed with Rebecca Weeks in doubles, advancing to the finals of Flight B before losing to the team of Cook and Rallauer of Tulane 8-4.
