LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore catcher Josh Bowling (Springfield, Va.) went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in as the University of Virginia baseball team came from behind to defeat Liberty 11-8. The Cavaliers trailed 8-2 after six innings of play, but used a nine-run rally in the top of the seven inning to secure the victory. Virginia improves to 11-3 this season with the win, while Liberty falls to 7-7.

The Cavaliers were able to score nine runs in the seventh inning on only four hits. Senior second baseman Ryan Gilleland (Forest, Va.) had a two-run single and junior designated hitter Javier Lopez (Fairfax, Va.) hit an RBI single in the inning, while senior outfielder E.J. Anderson (Mechanicsville, Va.) and junior outfielder Julian Gonzalez (Avon Park, Fla.) both drew walks with the bases loaded. With Liberty then ahead only 8-7, Bowling delivered a key two-run single to center field with the bases loaded to give the Cavaliers the lead. After Liberty center fielder Tim Strong misplayed the ball, a third run scored and Bowling advanced to second base. Senior outfielder Ted Kinsman (Vienna, Va.) would then knock in Bowling with an RBI double to conclude the scoring. The Cavaliers drew five walks during the inning, while also being hit-by-pitch once.

Both Kinsman and Lopez finished the day 2-for-5 for Virginia, while senior third baseman Brian Sherlock (Medford, N.J.) went 2-for-4. In addition, sophomore first baseman Eric Snoddy (Charlottesville, Va.) hit his first career home run, with a solo shot to left field during the third inning.

Junior righthander Bradley Nuckols (Crozier, Va.) picked up his first victory of the season, throwing 1-1/3 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts. Sophomore righthander Tim LaVigne (Virginia Beach, Va.) pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game, earning his fourth save of the year.

The Cavaliers and the Flames will meet again tomorrow, Mar. 11, with a 2:00 p.m. game at UVa Field.
