GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia sophomore BrandonCreswell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) was named co-pitcher of the weekhere Monday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Creswell shares the honorwith Duke’s Chris Capuano in the conference’s first week of weekly awards.

After a shaky first appearance two weeks ago against Jacksonvilleat the ACC/Disney Blast, Creswell was nearly untouchable against theBulldogs. The crafty Southpaw hurled a career-high 11 strike outs againstThe Citadel in first-day action of the 1999 Winn-Dixie Shootout inCharleston, S.C. He scattered six hits and walked just one to notch thesecond complete game of his career and lead the Cavaliers to a 5-1 victory.

Florida State’s Matt Diaz and Wake Forest’s Jon Palmieri were namedco-players of the week by the ACC.

UVa will open its 1999 home slate this weekend, hosting the NittanyLions of Penn State for a three-game set. The Cavaliers and Lions will playtwo Saturday at noon with the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
