CHAPEL HILL, NC —University of Virginia sophomore Brian Vahaly swept five straight matches at the ITA Region II Indoor Championships at the University of North Carolina’s Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C., to qualify for the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in February 1999.

Vahaly, the tournament’s second seed, posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Old Dominion’s Johan Varverud today to qualify for the national indoor event.

Vahaly will be joined by Duke’s Ramsey Smith as players qualifying from Region II. Smith downed Wake Forest’s Myles Clouston 7-6, 6-2 today.

The Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships will be held February 4-7, 1999, in Dallas, Texas.
