MINNEAPOLIS, – Impressive performances in the 100 yard butterfly left the Virginia women’s swimming team in 19th place with 39 points after day two of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota. Sophomores Meghan McCubbins (Richmond, Va.) and Kori Forster (New Orleans, La.) were among the top finishers in the event. Forster also swam a leg of the 200 yard medley relay for the Cavaliers, which captured 15th place.

McCubbins finished in 8th in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of :54.25. Forster came in 16th place in the event, finishing in :55.94. Forster joined freshman Meghan Iffland (Wilmington, Del.), sophomore Lindsay Schubert (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore sprinter Rebecca Cronk (Charlottesville, Va.) in the 200 yard medley relay, which finished with a time of 1:43.82. The ACC champion 800 yard freestyle relay of Cronk, Laura Sullivan (Sarasota, Fla.), Emily Trakas (Herndon, Va.) and Emily Carrig (Richmond, Va.) rounded out the day with a 13th place finish, completing the race in a season-best time of 7:21.45.

Three Cavaliers competed in the 200 yard freestyle event. Trakas took 29th place (1:49.30), followed by Carrig in 37th (1:50.07) and Sullivan in 51st (1:51.85). Schubert swam the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:04.18, good enough for a 29th place finish. Iffland placed 27th in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of :56.18.

The Cavaliers are poised for their first top 20 finish at the NCAA Championships since 1990. The meet concludes on Saturday, with preliminaries scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. and finals slated for 8:00 p.m (EST).
