CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — University of Virginia men’s head basketball coach Pete Gillen has announced the signing of 6-8 forward Stephane DonDon to a national letter of intent with Virginia.

DonDon, from Toulouse, France, earned All-North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference honors after averaging 14.2 points and 8.5 rebounds a game during the 1998-99 season at Collin County Community College in Plano, Texas. Collin County compiled an overall record of 22-12 during the 1998-99 season.

DonDon was also an All-Conference selection for the 1997-98 season when he averaged 12.1 points and 8.5 rebounds a game. He was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1997-98 and earned Player of the Week honors three times during the season. Collin County compiled an overall record of 20-11 during the 1997-98 season.

He finished his two-year career at Collin County Community College with 859 points and 550 rebounds. DonDon ranks first on the school’s career rebounding list and fifth on the scoring list.

“We’re very excited to have Stephane DonDon join our Virginia basketball family,” Gillen said. “Stephane is a combination forward who can play inside as well as on the perimeter. He’s an excellent rebounder and a very good athlete who shoots well from the perimeter. I think he can help us in many areas.

“Stephane is a terrific young man. He was born in France and speaks four languages. He will add a lot to the University both on the basketball court and off the court.”
