BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Virginia softball team dropped two games to host Louisiana State in a doubleheader. The Cavaliers lost the first game by a score of 8-2, before dropping the nightcap 5-4.

Stacey Zagol started on the mound for Virginia in game one and faced a potent LSU offense. Zagol gave up nine hits over three and one-third innings before being replaced by Cory Bolkan. Bolkan completed the game, allowing two hits over two and two-third innings. Neither UVa pitcher recorded a strikeout for the Cavaliers, marking the first time this season Virginia pitching has went a game without recording a strikeout.

Beth Crimi (2-2, double) led the Cavaliers at the plate. Mariruth Graham (1-1), Lori Reese (1-3, RBI), Karen Breshears (1-3, RBI), Meaghan Young (1-3) and Julie Amaon (1-3) each added singles for Virginia in the loss.

In game two, Bolkan took the mound for the Cavaliers. She allowed seven hits while recording UVa’s lone strikeout on the day. Virginia recorded five hits on the night. Young (1-4, 2 RBI, double), Reese (1-3, double, RBI, run), Stacy Holmes (1-4, triple), Corinne Good (1-3, run), and Jen Krill (1-3) recorded the Cavalier hits.

The sweep drops Virginia’s record to (9-10) overall. The Cavaliers will travel to Lafayette, La. to face Southwestern Louisiana on Tuesday, (Mar. 10) in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
